Missing the descending arpeggio in the intro, and the synth chords.Three alternate versions of Sonic tracks appeared as part of Sega Music Collection, a collection of BGMs from several Mega Drive titles which was distributed digitally in Japan via the Sega Game Toshokan dial-up service.Īs heard in this videotape recording of a user's online session with the service, this version of Green Hill Zone's BGM matches the recording of the Tokyo Toy Show '90 demo music, and all three tracks match the BGM for the Tera Drive store demo.Īll three tracks have noticeable differences compared to the final game's BGM. The stage select text is positioned upwards, too, possibly because of the lack of slots like Final Zone. It's possible that Scrap Brain/Clock Work Act 3 had the boss fight in it, similar to the other Acts. Some acts have Xs listed after them (possibly to mark if they were incomplete), and Final Zone is missing from the list. Later on, the palette got changed to the final's sepia-tone feel. The stage select once used a bluish-grey palette instead of a sepia-tone one. (Interestingly, this title screen heavily resembles the one from the 8-bit versions.) Since the title screen shares the same art/palettes as Green Hill, it used to have the differently detailed background in early pre-release materials before it got adjusted to resemble the final's background not too long afterwards. Several of the screenshots featured on said cover are captured from prototype versions of Sonic the Hedgehog, rather than the finalized release. The title screen of the build shown at the Tokyo Toy Show has a smaller banner (and "SONIC" text).Sonic's arms are miscolored blue on the cover. When Eggman is shown playing Sonic 1 on the Mega Drive, the screen shows he is in Spring Yard Zone.Actual Badniks appear in Sonic the Hedgehog Story Comic vol. Eggman's robots in this Volume appear mostly large and humanoid, unlike the smaller animal-shaped Badniks from the game.Eggman's wrecking ball is dark gray, instead of the brown checked pattern from the game. The Monkey Bass Player does not appear in this story despite having been present in the concept art.The Parakeet Guitarist has highlights in his hair in this story, a feature that was not present in concept art.The Rabbit Drummer is depicted as pink in concept art, but in this story he is blue. There are a few subtle differences between how the members of the Sonic the Hedgehog Band appeared in this story and how they appeared in the concept art.Crocodile on keyboards (only appearance).Sonic the Hedgehog Band (only appearance).Sonic's Bodyguard Platoon (only appearance).Flicky (blue and pink) (first appearance).Doctor Eggman also plans to practice the game on the Mega Drive before he takes his revenge! The story ends by saying that the "real fight" now begins in Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Mega Drive. Eggman is forced to flee in his damaged Egg Mobile, but he swears he'll get Sonic for this, to which Sonic replies "Anytime!" With Eggman gone, Sonic and the crowd get back to their concert. Sonic dodges the ball and jumps onto Eggman's windscreen, then uses his spines to rip the Egg Mobile apart.

Then Eggman himself attacks Sonic with a massive weight, attached to his Egg Mobile by a chain. He announces that he is Sonic the Hedgehog, and he will make Eggman pay for wrecking his performance.Įggman orders his other robots to attack Sonic, who destroys them with his Spin Attack and super speed. Sonic saves her and the other bystanders, destroying the robot with a Spin Attack. As the robots dig up the ground, a blonde girl in a skimpy blue hedgehog costume tells Eggman to stop, only for Eggman to sic one of his robots on her.

Before Sonic can start the first song, however, they are attacked by Eggman, who declares he is taking over the soil. Not far away, in the Green Hill Zone, a large crowd (including three scantily clad human girls called "Sonic's Bodyguard Platoon") has gathered to watch a pop concert performed by Sonic the Hedgehog and his band. Eggman sets off to excavate for the Emerald while his construction workers continue building his fortress. With the Chaos Emerald, he'll be able to boil world's largest egg in the world's largest pot, which has been his life dream since he was a child. Doctor Eggman is very happy, because the Chaos Emerald contains unfathomable energy and nobody has ever been able to find one before. One of his robots detects a Chaos Emerald from the north-west. Eggman intends to turn South Island into his new fortress, from which he will be able to conquer the world and then buy lots of eggs (his favorite food). Eggman and an army of his robots, who force all of the animals away. South Island is a very peaceful island that nobody has ever seen or heard of. Featured stories "Doctor Eggman's Challenge!!"
